Some "improvements" I would love to see in Gmail

I’ve been using Google Apps, the free version, for my domains for over six months now and there are some things I really don’t like about it. The first one is mostly due to my iPhone, I would love to able to turn of push mail automatically at night. There really isn’t any reason for me to get mail 2 A.M. Incoming mail at 2 A.M is also mostly logs or other diagnostic data so I don’t need to wake up to the beep.
Exchange vs. Google apps mail
What I miss most from Exchange is the function to order my email in folders at the server. So I could collect all my diagnostic and report mail in folders that would not automatically sync with pushmail. This is a feature I miss sooooo much. Google tries to do the same with labels but it really doesn’t work. It’s not enough to label a mail, I want it moved to a different folder so it wont get pushed to my iPhone, I can read lists and reports when I get to a full email client.
Outlook webaccess in Internet explorer is something pretty useful. It’s more or less a full Outlook client in your webbrowser. Google separates the calendar and the email and I would prefer to keep them in the same window. This is a matter of opinion I guess.
Although this might look like some kind of a rant on google, it’s not. I’m extremely happy to be able to use a enterprise class email service for my private domains. And the ads in the free version are really not intrusive.
Sum up
To sum up these are the improvements I’d like to see in Google Apps 2010.
- Be able to create rules to move mail into folders at the server end.
- Integrate the contacts and the calendar into Gmail and don’t keep them separate as they are today.
- Open a new window when composing a new mail.
