Building a secure Linux web server

by on 18.Jun, 2007 under Uncategorized

Stumbling the web I found a great little howto on creating a Linux web server. This manual uses CentOS which is one of my personal favorites. The howto tells you just about everything you need to know to setup a personal or hosting server. Quote from rayheffer.com

This guide will take you through each step required to build a Linux web server from the ground up. Starting with a new installation of CentOS 4.x, using Yum for updates and package installation, the LAMP components (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP), other modules such as Perl, Webalizer and FTP using VSFTP.
By following this guide, you can get a web server up and running within an hour or two depending on whether you follow it step by step, or prefer to experiment first.

OS News takes a first look at Windows Home Server RC1

by on 15.Jun, 2007 under Uncategorized

Since I’ve been running servers at home for many years now and seen the great use of servers at home I’ve been wondering when something like this will hit the market.
We tend to use computers and networks to almost anything now in our digital homes so I guess it was just a matter of time before these products were made available.
Anyway, OSNews.com had a go with RC1 so have a look at their article.
